why do holidays make people rude?

Ok so I have done my fair share of work in the retail world.

I understand that when you are paying your hard earned money for the product or service that I am providing you that you deserve to get what you want (I shop and go out to eat too) but that does NOT give you the right to be rude to me or my co workers or anyone in in the retail world. It also does NOT give you the right to abuse the system.

Your servers/cashiers are not mind readers, we make mistakes (don't even begin to tell me you have never made a mistake at work or in your personal life). Mistakes that happen to you are not a direct attack on you, I didn't give you a Venti Americano instead of yout Venti carmel breve white mocha with extra whip and carmel sauce which by the way has more than 800 calories in it...because I don't like you. I just picked up the wrong drink and handed it to you while you talked on your phone the whole time you sat in my drive through window...and if you are a regular and after you have driven off and I realize what happeded the next time I will give you your drink for my goof.

So I worked on Thanksgiving, and we were unexpectidly busy, and were understaffed. So if you can see that everyone behind the counter is working, we are obviously busy so just be patient.

What has sprung this rant is just the fact that I am tired of customers talking to me and treating me like I am a second class citizen, I am not stupid, your order is not as complicated and high mantiance as you think it is, (its my job to know how to write every little specific thing you want on your latte....I guarentee I have herd your dink before or heard more complicated) and please don't whisper it to me while standing 3 feet from the counter and expect me to hear it when there are blenders going, milk steaming, misic playing and timers going off...take a step closer and talk at a normal voice. So just be nice and smile :)

also this article got me thinking... http://adage.com/article?article_id=132889
